Tatler London Life Swinging Sixties magazine covers

In its brief existence London Life epitomised the Swinging Sixties. London Life was a short-lived relaunch of Tatler as a weekly listings magazine under editor Mark Boxer. The publishing company was the Thomson group, under its Illustrated Newspapers division. Boxer's dream team included David Hillman and David Puttnam, with Jean Shrimpton as a consultant fashion editor and photographers such as Terence Donovan, Duffy and Ron Traeger The first issue was in October 1965 and it closed at Christmas 1966. At 2/6, it was expensive; Radio Times cost 6d, a fifth of the price, and Time Out launched at 1/-
Tony Elliott's Time Out hit the streets in August 1968, but there is little comparison. Time Out was a left-wing agitprop underground magazine, whereas London Life was very much for the Swinging Sixties smart set, of which Boxer was himself a member.
