Yachting
and boating magazines
The international nature of the marine industry, especially
at the luxury powerboat and superyacht end, drives publishers of yachting magazines and boating
magazines to seek to spread overheads and sell advertising internationally.
The two biggest yacht and boating magazine publishers in the UK
are the Boat International Group, which specialises in the high-end of
the industry, and IPC Media, which has yachting and boating magazines
covering the whole range of the activity. In 2010, IPC Media undertook a review of its specialist titles and sold several of them, including Classic Boat. IPC still controls 8 business-to-business and consumer titles: International Boat Industry; Motor Boats Monthly; Motor Boat & Yachting; Practical Boat Owner; SuperYacht World; Ships Monthly; Yachting World; and YBW.
Apart from the Royal Yachting
Association title RYA
Magazine, the best-selling UK titles shift 30-35,000 copies a month. Magazines may also cover jet skis, personal watercraft (PW or PWC) and rigid inflatable boats (RIBs).
Many of these titles are available as digital magazines.
